Wight Woodturners

November Club Meeting

Thursday 23rd November 2017

Mike welcomed visitors and members. The main item of the evening would be Tommy Ford demonstrating turning Christmas decorations. The meeting would start with Show and Tell and later there would be the raffle.

The next meeting would be the AGM for members only on December 7th.After the official business there would be the draw for the Grand Raffle and mince pies and tea or coffee. The notice and papers would go out soon.

Show and Tell

Roy Groves had brought along some collets. There was a collet holder at £9 and collets 3mm to 13mm at £14.

David Ives showed a partially turned Ash bowl which had split in two. He also had a Robert Sorby sizing tool which he wanted to know how to use.

Mike brought along some shapes he had bought from Range at £1.50 for ten which he thought might be useful. He had also bought some mirrors also at ten for £1.50.

He then entertained us with ‘tales of a carousel maker’. Following Colwin Way’s demo and articles Mike had had a go. After much measuring, cutting and turning he finally assembled his new creation. Tea lights were inserted and the grand lighting up was under way. Nothing. The carousel was still. Not a man to be put off by such a set back Mike rang Colwin Way. “You’ve used cheap tea lights” came the reply. Mike installed more candlepower but still no result. Much discussion and experimentation followed but to no avail. [However, I later overheard some further engineering discussions….watch this space.]
