Wight Woodturners

June 2016 Events

Exhibition at the Rembrandt Gallery

Family Barbeque

Wight Woodturners have been busy again with both the Exhibition and Barbeque coinciding in the fourth week of June.  A great deal of individual turning work by members together with preparation and setting-up by committee members, and others, went into the exhibition at the Rembrandt Gallery in Newport.  The result was an attractive and interesting show which all of those involved enjoyed putting on.  Unfortunately, the Exhibition foot-fall was a little disappointing, not helped by the un-summery weather and the alternative entertainment of the Referendum!

Despite the weather on the day the BBQ was a happy and enjoyable family event. So much so that it looks like becoming a regular fixture in the Woodturners yearly calendar. The weather dried up just in time to enable our cooks to fire up the barbeque out in the fresh air. Many thanks go to Andy and Gareth for doing us all proud with a wonderful spread. Also, to our good ladies for the delicious cakes and scones.

A few pictures below capture the essence of the two June events.

With our new format we only have these larger pictures so the usual clicking won’t work!

Family Barbeque

Here Mike opens our Summer Family BBQ. It may be dreary weather outside but it’s certainly a cheery family atmosphere inside. Or could it just be a wonderful antidote to the referendum and voting. I well suspect this popular evening will become an annual fixture.

Despite our Gallery Exhibition overflowing with splendid work there was lots of interesting and inspiring pieces for family members and guests to admire.

Such a wide variety of work!

And even more!

Meanwhile some chatted

Our Bumper Family Raffle, beautifully laid out and not a turning blank in sight!

Even time to catch up on a few stories

Andy, our valiant cook for the evening but not forgetting Gareth who must be still slaving in the galley. Thanks guys! A really great spread enjoyed by all.
