Meeting held 13th September 2011

Our Chairman opened the evening by welcoming members and visitors, he then gave a resume of the clubs attendance at the Wolverton Garden Show. It was the final outing for our current club show stand, as it will be replaced for 2012. With two lathes running on each day the demonstrations attracted plenty of visitors. Light pulls, garden dibbers, carrier bag handles, finger spinning tops and mushrooms were all items turned throughout the show, these were sold to raise funds for Age Concern Isle of Wight, bringing in a total of £170.

A reminder about our October meeting, when we will have our second professional demonstrator, Gary Renouf visiting, our aim is to have a prompt 19.30 start, so please try and come a little earlier, doors open at 19.00, £5 entrance.

Our Web Master, John Osborn was on hand to explain some of the proposed web site changes that he has been working on, these are still at experimental stage and open to modification, hopefully, once approved implementation will be straight forward.

This month's competition was for a “Bowl of fruit”, there was a change to the way the competition was judged, instead of a visiting judge members were asked carry out the judging, using a small pro forma score sheet, these were handed in and all the points totaled to determine a winner. We had our monthly “Show & tell which was followed by lathe work, John was demonstrating pen making whilst Arthur demonstrated a lidded box.
