For the

Winter Open Competition

February 2018

The Wight Woodturners Competition series for 2018 started with one of our Open Competitions at the February meeting.  The idea of an Open in the winter months is so that Members may enter a piece that they have made in the last year so they don’t have to spend many hours in freezing workshops. However, looking at the entries and listening to several stories I would guess many pieces were recently made especially for this Competition. Maybe we should re-name it The Frostbite Competition.

The standard of all the entries was very high with much effort being spent on the finishing aspects. It was so good to see items from many of our newer members in addition to our old regulars. All of us learn something from each other’s pieces which we can store away and use in the future.

Many thanks to Roy, our Competition Master, for determining the winners from the members votes. The results for this competition can be found here and the rankings for the year are here.
